HRA ALERT: .50 CAL BAN HEARING

House Bill 412, banning .50 caliber rifles firing the .50 BMG cartridge and the ammunition, will be heard in it's first committee, Public Safety, which meets every Thursday morning at 8:30 am. It could be heard as early as Feb 5 or Feb 12. We will send a notice as soon as the hearing is announced, or you can sign up to have a hearing notice e-mailed to yourself at

http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/site1/docs/hearing/email1.asp

Please put those mornings on your calendar tentatively if it's at all possible for you to make the hearing.

Bill text and status at:

HRA suggests in the meanwhile you prepare to send testimony, but wait until you have a hearing notice to send it and follow the instructions on the notice. The process is different this year. If you know any of the representatives on the committee, contact them anytime and express your opposition, politely, as always:

HPD Chief Boisse Correia is, of course, the primary proponent. Lots of good people, including some gun owners, believe his lobby squad propaganda and somehow believe that bans work. Make no mistake, Chief Correia wants all your guns. He already tried and failed with bans on military look-a-likes and handguns. The .50 is just an easier arget.
