HRA Alert and PAC Request
HB980, Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) plan for a "Recreational Renaissance " is a $250 million plan to rejuvenate Hawaii's outdoor recreational activities, with repair, improvements, and additions to state parks, trails, boat harbors, and two very much needed new shooting ranges , one on Kauai and one in West Hawaii. The plan does not use tax money, but bonds, tourist user fees, and, for the ranges, funds from the federal excise tax on firearms, ammunition, and archery equipment. Places to shoot promote gun rights, whether you'll personally ever shoot there isn't so important, and all good hunting trips start at a range.
The bill, supported by the Governor and Rep. Ken Ito, has passed the House. The Senate will naturally want to water it down. The shooting ranges might be the first items deleted. Our Senate is not a gun-friendly body.
It's timely now to contact your Senator http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/site1/senate/members/members.asp and ask for their support on DLNR's Recreational Renaissance package. Emphasize "the entire package," which needs to remain intact.

This Legislative Session is going well for us, and it's half way through. We've stopped the bad stuff and we're working on the good stuff like new ranges, protection against seizure of guns during a hurricane, and a good castle doctrine/stand-your-ground bill.
The Hawaii Citizens Rights Political Action Committee (HCR/PAC) contributes to the campaigns of Legislators who support our issues . Fundraisers are usually held right about now, after the Legislature's mid-way point. Fortunately we have more people to support this year than ever before , in contrast to our federal situation. Your contribution is needed now, please. Send what you can, thanks.
Free gift for PAC contributors of $100 or more: Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) Journal, Fall 2008, with DC vs Heller Amicus Briefs, autographed by lead attorney Alan Gura (while supplies last).
