View Full Version : Making gun registrations easier

I was at HPD the other day applying for a permit to acquire. There was a long line in the morning so I turned around and came back before lunch...another long line.

Realistically, gun registration isn't going away in Hawaii. But I was thinking instead of pushing for legislation that would be near impossible to pass, e.g., shall issue ccw, repeal of 10rd pistol mag limit, repeal of firearms registration, etc, how about we push for making the gun registration process more efficient?

I'm thinking:

Apply once a year for a general firearms permit(ala long gun permit). This provides the state a once a year check on people for recent felonies, TROs, etc. Law abiding citizens can purchase handguns and long guns using current procedures for long gun purchases.

Allow FFLs to fax or email in gun registration info to the police. If the BATF trusts FFLs to record serial numbers, local PDs should as well.

Firearms owners with current registrations should be exempt from the two week waiting period. This never made sense to me. Why make a guy wait for a firearm if he already has firearms in his possession?

I'd rather have the HRA and our politicians work on legislation that has at least a snowballs chance versus CCW and other legislation that have no chance.

Thoughts?
